Introduction
Our Property
The building is situated in the oldest part of Cospicua (Bormla), one of the Three Cities of the Cottonera, half way between the Immaculate Conception Parish Church and the Convent and Chapel of Saint Theresa. It is situated just opposite the newly restored Dock No. 1, just meters away from the new American University of Malta campus.
The underground cavern, the oldest part of this property, dates back to before the Great Siege of 1565. Researchers found that all buildings in Cospicua were knocked down to safeguard the Knight's City of Vittoriosa before the fierce battle. They were afraid that the Turks might hide in some Cospicua dwellings, putting Birgu in imminent danger. According to the old maps of Malta, the original building on this site was also demolished.
Built some years later, in circa 1580, by an Italian Knight of the Holy Order of St John, this house shows the lavish lifestyle of the wealthy Knights. The owner was a hunting aficionado. He built this place to rest after intense hunting sessions. We won't be surprised that its hidden location might have served for other intents and purposes after sunset.
The old steps leading to this magnificent property were built by the Knights of St John and have survived severe battering during World War II .
We have six uniquely designed bedrooms, all of which will boast a different design and decor. All rooms will somehow reflect the legacy of our property in valuing the meticulous work carried out by our ancestors and stone masons from the period of the Knights of Malta. Provided with all modern comfort and elegant finishing, the old rooms of this property have been converted into comfortable and elegantly-finished bedrooms, each room with a different story to tell.
